Over 120 Students Compete in Central Regional Science Fair at Hastings College
More than 120 students from schools in the area recently showcased their scientific talents at the Central Regional Science Fair for the Nebraska Junior Academy of Sciences, held at Hastings College. The fair, which featured 100 projects from students in grades 6 through 12, was split into Junior and Senior Divisions.
Six projects from each division were selected to move on to the State Science Fair competition. The top projects in the Senior Division at the state level will then have the opportunity to qualify for the National Science Fair.
The projects at the fair covered a wide range of topics, from testing the strength of duct tape to studying the effects of different cleaners on classroom tables. Some notable projects included “Magnesmooth: Magnetizing the Ingenuity of Transportation” and “The Effect of Land Management Technique on Soil Aggregation.”
Hastings College, a four-year residential college, hosted the fair at the Morrison-Reeves Science Center on campus. Those interested in learning more about the projects can find an abstract booklet of all entries on Hastings College’s website at hastings.edu/sciencefair.
The Central Regional Science Fair not only showcases the talent and hard work of these young scientists but also provides them with valuable experience and opportunities for future competitions.
