Several schools in the New Orleans area are preparing for potential severe weather and have announced early dismissal times for Monday, Jan. 8, 2024. The Lafourche Parish School Board will release all schools and offices early, with high schools dismissing at 11:15 a.m., middle schools at 11:45 a.m., and elementary schools at 12:30 p.m. Similarly, Terrebonne Parish schools will also dismiss early, with all office buildings closing at 12 p.m.

In St. Tammany Parish, schools will dismiss three hours early on Monday, with all after-school activities canceled. Jefferson Parish Schools have opted for a half-day schedule, with different dismissal times for each school. St. Bernard Parish schools will also dismiss early, starting with Chalmette High School, Rowley Alternative, and Smith Elementary at noon. St. James Parish schools will operate under an early release schedule, with high schools releasing at 10:45 a.m. and elementary schools at 11:30 a.m. Lastly, the St. Charles Parish Public School System will have a tiered dismissal, with different release times for each school.

Even Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of New Orleans will be making schedule adjustments due to the forecasted inclement weather. It is important for parents, students, and staff to stay updated on these changes. Updates will be provided through various platforms, including robocalls, texts, websites, and social media.
