Albert Einstein College of Medicine Receives Historic $1 Billion Donation from Retired Professor

In a groundbreaking move for medical education, Albert Einstein College of Medicine has received a monumental $1 billion donation from retired professor Dr. Ruth Gottesman. This historic contribution, made possible by the fortune left by her late husband, David “Sandy” Gottesman, will allow the school to offer free tuition to all medical students going forward.

The donation, believed to be one of the largest ever made to a medical school in the US, will have an immediate impact on current fourth-year students. Additionally, all students starting in August will now graduate without the burden of paying tuition. Despite the size of the donation, Dr. Gottesman insisted that her name not be attached to the school as a condition of her generous contribution.

Dr. Gottesman has a long-standing relationship with Albert Einstein College of Medicine, dating back to 1968. Alongside her late husband, she has previously made philanthropic contributions to the institution. The school’s dean, Yaron Tomer, expressed gratitude for the gift, noting that it will allow them to continue attracting students dedicated to their mission.

This transformative donation ensures that Albert Einstein College of Medicine can train compassionate and knowledgeable physicians who will provide healthcare in communities both locally and globally. The impact of this historic gift will resonate for years to come, shaping the future of medical education at the esteemed institution.
