The University of Houston men’s basketball team recently wrapped up a successful 12-day tour of Australia, finishing with an impressive record of 3-1. The tour not only showcased the team’s talent but also allowed them to immerse themselves in Australian culture and enjoy popular attractions.

In their final game of the tour, the Cougars completely dominated the Australia Select Team, securing a convincing 88-50 victory. Guards Quentin Grimes and Marcus Sasser played instrumental roles in the win, with both players almost achieving a triple-double performance. Grimes led all players with 15 points, nine rebounds, six steals, and three assists, while Sasser contributed 14 points, six assists, and a game-high seven steals. Their outstanding play helped the team secure a memorable victory.

Head Coach Kelvin Sampson took advantage of the opportunity to give younger players substantial playing time, allowing them to gain valuable experience on the court. This decision proved to be successful, as the team displayed excellent teamwork and showcased the depth of their roster.

From the beginning of the game, the Cougars took control, establishing a commanding 24-10 lead after the first quarter. They sustained their dominance throughout the game, maintaining a robust defense that limited the Australia Select Team to a mere 31.9% shooting from the field and forced an impressive 31 turnovers.

Aside from the games themselves, the team made the most of their time in Australia by visiting popular attractions such as the Sydney Opera House and the Great Barrier Reef. This cultural enrichment allowed the players to experience the unique beauty and charm of the country while forging lasting memories.

Back home, the team’s success is evident from the sold-out season ticket allotment for the 2023-24 season at the Fertitta Center.
