Title: Georgia and Ohio State Continue Undefeated Streaks in Latest AP Top 25 College Football Poll
In the latest release of the AP Top 25 college football poll, the top five teams from the previous week’s rankings have managed to maintain their undefeated records after their games over the weekend. The weekend’s games showcased both dominant victories and challenging battles for these top-ranked teams.
Georgia and Ohio State, the number one and two ranked teams respectively, demonstrated their dominance on the field with convincing wins against their opponents. Georgia finished their regular SEC season perfectly for the third consecutive year, achieving an impressive 28-game winning streak. Meanwhile, Ohio State remained undefeated for the seventh time since 2000, and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. continued his remarkable streak by catching a touchdown pass in his seventh consecutive game.
Michigan, the third-ranked team, faced a tough challenge but emerged victorious. Their win allowed them to reach a historic milestone as the first college football program to reach 1,000 wins. Washington, the fourth-ranked team, also encountered resistance but managed to secure a victory. Wide receiver Rome Odunze showcased an impressive performance, catching seven passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns.
However, amidst the celebrations, the win for Florida State came at a price. Quarterback Jordan Travis suffered a devastating leg injury, resulting in his being sidelined. But backup QB Tate Rodemaker stepped up to the occasion, leading the team to an incredible 58 unanswered points.
Other notable highlights from the weekend’s games included Bo Nix tying the Oregon single-game record for touchdown passes with an astonishing six in the first half alone. Texas also made waves by becoming the first Big 12 team since 2014 to hold opponents to under 100 rushing yards in five consecutive games.
In other matchups, Jalen Milroe’s three passing touchdowns helped Alabama cruise to a comfortable victory, while Louisville clinched a spot in the ACC championship game and achieved their first 10-win season since 2013. Additionally, Missouri celebrated their first season with at least nine wins since 2014.
Penn State continued their winning streak against unranked opponents, while Rutgers extended their losing streak against AP-ranked teams. Ole Miss maintained their dominance when favored by 17 points or more, improving their record to an impressive 62-1 since 1978. Oklahoma’s Dillon Gabriel surpassed J.T. Barrett in the record books, now holding the fifth most touchdowns in FBS history.
LSU’s Jayden Daniels made history by tying Joe Burrow for the most total touchdowns in a single game in LSU history. Oregon State impressed with their narrow losses, as their three defeats came by just eight combined points. Arizona made a strong statement with a 28-0 lead, keeping themselves in contention for a Pac-12 title berth.
Other standout performances included Notre Dame’s Sam Hartman, who had an impressive game against his former team with 277 yards and four touchdowns. Tulane’s QB Michael Pratt set a record by extending his touchdown pass streak to 25 games while becoming the school’s all-time leader in career passing yards. Kansas State also extended their winning streak against Kansas to 15 games, the longest in the rivalry’s history.
Iowa secured their spot in the Big Ten title game by securing their third win of the season when scoring 15 or fewer points. Oklahoma State overcame a first-half deficit to defeat Houston, with Ollie Gordon II rushing for 164 yards and three touchdowns. Liberty achieved their fifth game rushing for over 300 yards this season in their victory over UMass. Toledo celebrated their 10th consecutive win, marking the second-longest winning streak in the Group of 5. On the other hand, James Madison suffered their first loss of the season at home against unranked Appalachian State.
Finally, Tennessee’s Jaylen Wright made a remarkable start to their game against Georgia, scoring a 75-yard touchdown on the first play, thus becoming the longest play against Georgia this season.
Overall, the latest AP Top 25 college football poll has shown that the top-ranked teams are continuing to demonstrate their dominance on the field, while the thrill of the game keeps fans on their toes.
