My MBA Career: Florida State Surprises in College Football Playoff, Upsets Ohio State after Clemsons Loss
Last Updated on September 5, 2023 by Robert C. Hoopes
Florida State’s dominant victory over LSU and Duke’s domination of Clemson have already caused a major shake-up in the New Year’s Six bowl projections and College Football Playoff rankings after just one week of the 2023 season. The Seminoles have risen to an impressive No. 3 spot in the projected CFP Rankings, putting themselves in a prime position to enter the playoff field. Meanwhile, perennial powerhouse Ohio State has fallen out of the field, making way for Alabama, who moves up to No. 4.
With these new rankings in place, the projected playoff semifinal matchups are set: Georgia will face off against Alabama, while Michigan will battle it out against Florida State. These matchups are sure to excite fans and bring intense competition to the postseason.
The shifting bowl projections don’t end there. Ohio State has secured a spot in the Orange Bowl, a position previously held by Penn State. They will be matched up against North Carolina, the highest-rated team available from the Big Ten, SEC, and Notre Dame. This matchup will surely be a must-watch for college football fans.
Clemson, on the other hand, has taken the Big Ten’s spot in the ReliaQuest Bowl. The ACC now occupies the Big Ten’s spot in the Orange Bowl, creating a ripple effect throughout the bowl selections. Penn State has shifted to the Peach Bowl, while LSU and Texas have been swapped for geographic and matchup reasons.
Washington’s dominant victory over Boise State has propelled them into the Fiesta Bowl, where they will face off against Tulane. This unexpected outcome has knocked Kansas State out of the New Year’s Six bowl picture. This is a significant achievement for Washington and a well-deserved opportunity for Tulane.
To recap, the New Year’s Six bowl matchups now include Washington vs. Tulane in the Fiesta Bowl, North Carolina vs. Ohio State in the Orange Bowl, Penn State vs. LSU in the Peach Bowl, and USC vs. Texas in the Cotton Bowl. These matchups promise to deliver thrilling football action and showcase some of the top teams in the country.
Surprisingly, three teams with 5-7 records, Wake Forest, Boston College, and Michigan State, are expected to secure bowl game berths. This is due to a lack of eligible teams and highlights the unique circumstances of the 2023 season.
As the college football season progresses, these projections and rankings are sure to evolve. Fans will be eagerly watching to see if their favorite teams can secure coveted bowl game berths and potentially make a run at the College Football Playoff.
