Berkshire Hathaway, the conglomerate run by legendary investor Warren Buffett, has reported its highest-ever annual profit for the last year. The company disclosed a staggering $97.1 billion in net earnings, a significant turnaround from the $22 billion loss reported in the previous year.
Buffett, known for his long-term value investing approach, attributed the success to the performance of the company’s diverse portfolio of businesses. However, he also pointed out that government regulation had negatively impacted some of Berkshire’s largest businesses, affecting their results.
In his annual letter to investors, Buffett also paid tribute to Charlie Munger, the company’s vice chairman until his passing in November. Munger was a key figure in Berkshire’s success and his loss was deeply felt within the company.
Berkshire Hathaway’s operating earnings for the year stood at $37.4 billion, a 21 percent increase from the previous year. The conglomerate’s divisions include insurance, BNSF railroad, power utility, Brooks running shoes, Dairy Queen, and See’s candy, among others.
As one of the largest and most well-known companies in the world, Berkshire Hathaway is often seen as a bellwether of the American economy. The breadth of its business operations gives investors a unique insight into various sectors and industries, making its annual performance a closely watched event in the business world.
