On April Fools’ Day, a series of hoax calls sparked panic and police responses at multiple schools across North Carolina. Anonymous callers claimed there was a person inside the schools with a gun, prompting heightened security measures and swift action from law enforcement.
Documents released by the North Carolina Information Sharing and Analysis Center (NC ISAAC) confirmed that all calls were thoroughly investigated and ultimately determined to be hoaxes. However, the threats were taken seriously, as officials feared the potential for a more serious incident.
One of the schools affected was Apex High School in Apex, NC, which went on lockdown for 15 minutes as authorities conducted a thorough search of the premises. Other schools mentioned in the hoax calls included Kings Mountain High School, East Lincoln High School, Crest High School, Freedom High School, and South Caldwell High School. It is worth noting that some of these schools were actually closed for spring break at the time of the incidents.
The calls were believed to be part of a larger April Fools’ Day prank, with concerns raised about the possibility of more calls throughout the day. Law enforcement agencies remain vigilant and are urging the public to report any suspicious activity or information to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
As the situation unfolded, students, teachers, and parents were reminded of the importance of staying alert and taking threats seriously in today’s climate of heightened security concerns. The swift response from authorities helped ensure the safety of everyone involved, but also serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of irresponsible and dangerous pranks.
