Last Updated on March 1, 2024 by Robert C. Hoopes
The HBS African American Student Union (AASU) is on a mission to create a supportive and tight-knit community for its members at Harvard Business School. From the moment students decide to join HBS, throughout their journey in the MBA program, and even beyond graduation, AASU aims to provide a sense of belonging and support.
Recently, two members of AASU, Sandra Tsikor and Kirt Matthews, were featured in an article highlighting their experiences before and during their time at HBS. Sandra, originally from Tema, Ghana and now residing in New York City, has an impressive background having worked at African Leadership Academy, Deloitte, and Monitor Institute before pursuing her MBA at HBS. During her time at HBS, Sandra has been actively involved in conferences, learning from classmates and alumni leaders in socially impactful fields, and is now looking to transition into a role at a fintech company that focuses on financial inclusion.
On the other hand, Kirt Matthews hails from Elkhart, Indiana, and worked in consulting at Accenture Strategy before HBS. He also interned in investment banking at Goldman Sachs. Kirt’s HBS experience has been enriching and fulfilling, as he has actively engaged with his section, served as a Section Senator, and is now pursuing a career in social impact investing to address the racial wealth gap for Black Americans.
Both Sandra and Kirt share a common motivation to address social issues and are determined to use their experiences at HBS to make a meaningful impact in their post-MBA careers. Their commitment to creating positive change and making a difference in the world is truly inspiring, and serves as a testament to the ethos of AASU at Harvard Business School.
