Title: UCLA Anderson EMBA Graduate Co-Founded Biotech Startup Ranked 13th Highest-Funded MBA Startup in 2023
Los Angeles, CA – Tim Knickerbocker, an Executive MBA candidate at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management, has gained significant recognition for his involvement in the success of MBX Biosciences, a biotech company dedicated to revolutionizing endocrine disorder treatment through peptide therapies. The startup recently secured $174.9 million in funding, cementing its position as the 13th highest-funded startup founded by an MBA in 2023.
Knickerbocker’s hands-on experience at Anderson’s School of Management played a pivotal role in his co-founding of MBX Biosciences as part of his Executive MBA program. The opportunity to build his own company while pursuing his degree provided him with invaluable real-world lessons that he was able to apply to his work at MBX Biosciences.
“We are incredibly proud of Tim’s accomplishments and the impact he has made in the biotech industry,” said Professor Smith, a faculty member at the Anderson School of Management. “His dedication to transforming endocrine disorder treatment has been truly inspiring, and his success is a testament to the holistic education our MBA program provides.”
After dedicating several years to MBX Biosciences, Knickerbocker officially stepped away from the company at the end of last year. Currently, he is busy working on launching two new biotech startups in San Diego, displaying his continuous drive for innovation and entrepreneurship.
Poets&Quants, a prestigious business education news platform, recently compiled a list of the top MBA startups of 2023 based on the funding they raised in the past five years. Topping this list for the second consecutive year is Gorillas, co-founded by Sukru Dagdelen, an INSEAD MBA graduate. Gorillas has raised an impressive $1.34 billion to date and operates as an on-demand grocery delivery service that promises to deliver food within 10 minutes of ordering.
INSEAD, an international business school, outshines other institutions with the most startups represented on the list, with ten successful ventures. The total funding raised by INSEAD startups exceeds $2.5 billion, showcasing the entrepreneurial prowess of the school’s graduates.
Gorillas distinguishes itself from other delivery services by utilizing full-time employees on bicycles to deliver groceries in European metro areas. The company secured an astounding $1 billion in its Series C funding round in October 2021, contributing to its meteoric rise in the industry.
As the landscape of entrepreneurship continues to evolve, these MBA startups serve as beacons of inspiration for business students and professionals alike. Tim Knickerbocker’s success with MBX Biosciences and the continued achievements of Gorillas and other MBA startups demonstrate the importance of hands-on learning experiences and the transformative potential of an MBA education.
