Elon Musk, the renowned entrepreneur behind Tesla and SpaceX, has been named America’s most overrated CEO in a recent survey conducted by Fortune Magazine. The survey, which involved hundreds of business executives ranking their peers as either overrated or underrated, revealed that Musk received a staggering 399 votes, making him the top choice for this undesirable title. This is not the first time Musk has been labeled as the most overrated CEO, as he also held this position in last year’s survey.

The survey results also revealed that Disney CEO Bob Iger came in a close second place with 302 votes. On the other hand, Microsoft chief Satya Nadella was ranked as the most underrated CEO, receiving 274 votes. Nadella has held this title for an impressive eight consecutive years.

Musk’s reputation as an overrated CEO stems from his ambitious and sometimes unrealistic targets. While he has been praised for his contributions to the electric vehicle and commercial space industries, critics argue that he sets overly ambitious goals that are often not met. For instance, Musk has continually pushed back the timeline for sending humans to Mars.

Despite being known for running multiple successful companies and recently purchasing Twitter, which he renamed X, Musk has been unable to shake off the criticism regarding his overrated status. When approached for comment, Musk’s representatives did not respond to a request from Business Insider.

The survey conducted by Fortune Magazine sheds light on the perceptions of the business community regarding the effectiveness and impact of CEOs. While Musk may be viewed as overrated by some, others see him as a visionary and an innovator in his respective industries. Regardless of public opinion, it is clear that Musk’s influence and controversial reputation continue to garner attention in the business world.
