Kaskaskia College Main Campus to Reopen Following Waterline Break
Kaskaskia College in Illinois faced a waterline break on its main campus, causing water service to be lost to about 80 percent of the buildings. The break was located and fixed promptly by multiple contractors, with a 12-foot-deep trench dug to access the problem.
College President George Evans confirmed that the main campus will reopen and classes will resume as scheduled on Thursday. The leak was discovered when water started shooting out of the ground near the Administration building on the fitness trail.
The break was in a six to eight-inch hole in one of the eight-inch water main lines. The cause of the break is still unclear, but there is a hypothesis that the 50-year-old pipe was affected by shifting ground.
Students and staff at Kaskaskia College can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that the issue has been resolved and normal operations will resume shortly. The college administration has expressed their gratitude to the contractors involved in locating and fixing the break in a timely manner.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of regular maintenance and inspection of infrastructure to prevent such disruptions in the future. Kaskaskia College is taking steps to ensure the safety and efficiency of its facilities moving forward.
