Results of Cadet Program in Colorado Partnership Between Community College of Aurora and Police
Last Updated on May 10, 2024 by Robert C. Hoopes
The Aurora Police Department (APD) is teaming up with the Community College of Aurora to launch an exciting new cadet pilot program aimed at providing free higher education to students interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.
The program, which is funded by philanthropists, covers tuition, fees, and textbooks for students pursuing an associate degree in any field. In exchange for the free education, participants are required to commit to working at the APD for a minimum of three years upon graduation.
Graduates of the program will be expected to serve the Aurora community as officers, gaining valuable experience in the police field along the way. The program also includes an apprenticeship component, allowing students to learn directly from experienced officers.
Not only does the program provide a pathway for students to work their way up in ranks at the APD, but graduates also have the option to pivot to a role within the City of Aurora if they are unable to complete the three-year commitment as an officer.
Minimum requirements for the program include being 17 years old or older, a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, no felony convictions, and maintaining a certain GPA and level of community engagement.
