Skilled Trade Jobs in High Demand, Offering High Pay and Job Security

According to research by McKinsey & Co., the skilled labor market is under pressure as aging workers retire and there is a lack of young people training for trade jobs. This has led to record-high demand for skilled tradespeople, with wages rising by more than 20% since the first quarter of 2020.

In the U.S., demand for skilled trade jobs is expected to remain high due to infrastructure needs and investment in renewable energy. In-demand trade jobs that do not require a college degree include construction superintendent, manufacturing production manager, and journeyman plumber. Various levels of certification, such as apprentice, journeyman, and master, are required for trade jobs like plumbing.

Data from Payscale and ZipRecruiter show that construction superintendents have seen the largest increase in demand, with job openings surging over 128%. Other high-paying trade jobs include fleet managers and journeyman electricians. Careers in construction, manufacturing, and home services provide opportunities to earn up to six figures without a college degree.
