Rini Tabassum, an entrepreneur and former MBA student at the University of Southern California (USC), has expressed her disbelief and disappointment after the university decided to revoke her invitation to speak at the upcoming commencement ceremony. Tabassum, who had been scheduled to deliver the keynote address, was informed of the decision just days before the event.

The abrupt cancellation of Tabassum’s speech has sparked outrage among students and faculty members, with many staging protests and demanding her reinstatement as a speaker. The university has also faced criticism for removing Cyrus Chu, another outside speaker, from the commencement website after questions were raised by The New York Times.

In response to the controversy, USC has announced that outside speakers and honorees, including Chu, have been released from their commitments to attend the graduation ceremony. This decision has only further fueled the backlash against the university, with many accusing USC of bowing to external pressure and censoring free speech.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Southern California has announced that they are considering representing Tabassum in a potential lawsuit against USC under the Leonard Law, which protects free speech in colleges. Tabassum’s case has reignited debates about academic freedom and the limits of free expression on college campuses.
