Elon Musk Said 80% Reduction in Twitter Staff

Last Updated on June 15, 2023 by Robert C. Hoopes

In a frank BBC interview, Elon Musk addresses recent Twitter-related controversy.

Elon Musk, a billionaire entrepreneur, spoke openly to the BBC about the controversy that has surrounded his use of Twitter, his businesses, and his personal life. SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s propensity for frequent and sometimes divisive tweets has earned him the ire of shareholders, government officials, and the general public.

Musk was questioned about his recent Twitter exchange with Vermont senator Bernie Sanders, in which Sanders criticized Musk’s high salaries and the CEO defended the compensation package as necessary to attract top talent. “I am accumulating resources to help make life multi-planetary and extend the light of consciousness to the stars,” Musk tweeted in response to Sanders.

Musk has defended his use of Twitter by claiming that it allows him to communicate with the public and express his views, though he has also acknowledged that he sometimes goes too far. When asked about his tendency to tweet excessively, he admitted, “I say things that I shouldn’t say.” On balance, though, I see it as a boon because it puts me in touch with the fans who immediately appreciate my work.

Musk’s recent split from musician Grimes and his ongoing custody battle with his ex-wife over their children were discussed in the interview. Musk said he has learned to be more selective in what he shares on social media and apologized for some of the personal tweets he has made in the past.

“I have made mistakes in my personal life, and I regret some of the things I’ve said in public,” he admitted. But I believe it’s vital to be open and honest, even if it means owning up to your shortcomings.

Musk also spoke about his businesses, such as SpaceX’s recent manned mission launch to the International Space Station and Tesla’s plans to increase production. He reaffirmed his desire to see humanity become a multi-planet species and emphasized the importance of electric vehicles to that end.

If we want to make sure our civilization survives, he said, “we need to transition to sustainable energy and become a multi-planetary species.” To that end, I think electric vehicles will play a significant role in the future.

In sum, the interview offered a unique window into the mind of one of the most powerful business leaders in the world. Some people will appreciate Musk more for his candor and openness about his failures and goals, while others will continue to be skeptical of his grandiose plans and sometimes-controversial behavior. Musk’s influence on the tech and space industries is undeniable, and his vision for humanity’s future is one worth considering.
