Exploring transcription jobs and salary potential – My MBA Career

Social media influencers have been touting easy ways to make money from home without much effort or time commitment, but are these claims actually legitimate? Eyewitness News took a closer look at one potential option for remote work: transcription jobs.
Nathan Pikover, a representative from TranscribeMe, shed some light on the reality of transcription work. Contrary to what some influencers may suggest, transcription does require skill and hard work. Transcribers listen to audio recordings and meticulously type out everything that is said, with longer and more difficult recordings typically earning higher pay.
While it is possible to make around $7-$10 US per labor hour as a transcriptionist, this is by no means a guaranteed income. In comparison, the minimum wage in Connecticut is $15.69 per hour, meaning that transcription work may not make you rich but can offer a supplementary income stream.
As with any work-from-home opportunity, it’s important to be cautious of companies that request money upfront for training. Legitimate transcription schools do exist, such as Transcribe Anywhere, which has a good reputation with the Better Business Bureau and charges approximately $1,000 for training.
Before making the leap to full-time transcription work, experts recommend thoroughly researching the industry and trying out transcription tasks on a part-time basis. The key to success in this field, they emphasize, is to invest in honing your transcription skills and to steer clear of potential scams that may promise quick and easy money.
