Last Updated on March 23, 2024 by Robert C. Hoopes
Residents in a north Phoenix neighborhood are up in arms over plans for a new gun and ammo business to be run out of a home in their community. John Shaw and Ryan Zillioux are seeking to launch King Tactical, LLC, from one of their residences, prompting concerns about the impact on the area.
The business would primarily operate online, with minimal in-person contact, selling guns, ammo, and tactical gear. Shaw and Zillioux have assured that all necessary security and safety measures will be in compliance with regulations set by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Despite these assurances, neighbors are worried about the potential rezoning needed for the business and the overall effect on the residential neighborhood. Customers would be required to pass a background check and schedule an appointment to pick up purchases.
Shaw and Zillioux have expressed their hope to eventually move the business to a larger, more suitable facility. The City of Phoenix is currently reviewing the application for a use permit for a home occupation, with the case set to be heard at the upcoming April 4 Zoning Adjustment Hearing.
The situation has sparked a heated debate among residents, local officials, and business owners about the balance between property rights and community safety. Stay tuned for updates on the outcome of the hearing and the future of King Tactical, LLC in the north Phoenix neighborhood.
