Denver Pioneers Claim 10th National Championship in NCAA Men’s Hockey
Denver goalie Matt Davis stole the show in the NCAA men’s Frozen Four championship game against Boston College, making a stunning stop in front of the net. Despite not winning a game all season when scoring fewer than three goals, Denver managed to win four games in a row to secure their record 10th NCAA men’s hockey national championship.
The Pioneers shut down Boston College, the No. 1 overall seed, with a score of 2-0 in the title game held in St. Paul, Minnesota. Davis had an outstanding performance with 34 saves, handing the Eagles their first shutout of the season. He finished the tournament with 138 saves on 141 shots and an impressive 0.85 goals-against average.
Jared Wright and Rieger Lorenz scored the crucial goals for the Pioneers, securing their victory in the championship game. This win marks Denver’s second national title in three years and their 10th overall, the most of all time.
The Frozen Four teams, including Denver, BC, Boston University, and Michigan, have a combined total of 29 national titles, with Denver’s 10 championships leading the pack. Fans can catch every game of the NCAA men’s hockey tournament, including the Frozen Four and championship game, on ESPN+.
