Americans are increasingly turning away from traditional careers that require a bachelor’s degree and instead seeking out flexible, high-paying jobs that do not require a college education. This trend is evident in the skyrocketing number of Google searches for “no degree jobs,” which hit an all-time high this year in the United States.
Surprisingly, around 75% of jobs in the US that pay over $35,000 annually still require a college degree. However, only 38% of Americans have a bachelor’s degree, creating a significant earnings gap. This disparity is posing challenges for understaffed companies and workers negatively impacted by inflation.
Google’s research reveals that people are most enthusiastic about careers that offer travel opportunities, flexible work schedules, and a clear path to becoming their own boss. A glimpse into the future also highlights the most Googled jobs of 2023 in the US, which include real estate agent, notary, and travel agent positions. These jobs typically only require a high school diploma or a GED, with no further formal education requirements.
That being said, specific certifications or licenses are necessary to work as a notary or real estate agent. The duration of acquiring these credentials can range from 1 to 9 months, depending on the state. Similarly, most travel agents need a high school diploma and undergo on-the-job training. Additionally, they can pursue certifications offered by transit associations to enhance their expertise in the field.
Compensation is a significant factor for job seekers exploring opportunities without a degree. This is evident from the high volume of searches for “high paying jobs without a degree.” The average salaries for these roles vary, with travel agents earning around $39,955, real estate agents earning approximately $86,356, and notaries bringing in an impressive $129,717, according to data from ZipRecruiter. It is important to note that the top 10% of real estate agents and notaries earn well over $100,000 and $200,000, respectively.
As the job market continues to evolve, it is clear that the interest in college-free careers with competitive salaries is on the rise among Americans. This trend is not only transforming the way individuals approach their careers but also posing challenges and opportunities for companies and workers alike.
