Montgomery Bell Academy (MBA) in Nashville has made an exciting announcement regarding its baseball program. The school has revealed that Andrew Triggs, a 2007 MBA graduate, will take over as the new baseball coach starting on July 1. Triggs will be stepping into this role as the current coach, Mike Anderson, transitions to focusing on his duties as the school’s athletics director.
Anderson, who has been the head coach since 2013, will finish out the current season before passing the torch to Triggs. The MBA baseball team has had a record of 10-10 this season and has not made the state tournament since 2013 when they were the Division II-AA state runner-up. The program has a storied history, having won four state titles, with the most recent one dating back to 2004.
Dr. William Daughtrey, Head of School at MBA, expressed thanks for Anderson’s leadership in athletics and welcomed Triggs as the new coach. Triggs, a two-time All Pac-12 pitcher at Southern California, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He played eight years in professional baseball for teams like the Kansas City Royals, Oakland A’s, San Francisco Giants, and Boston Red Sox. In addition to his on-field success, Triggs was named the Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2012.
Daughtrey praised Triggs’ knowledge of the game and his dedication to mentoring students. He highlighted Triggs’ focus on developing student-athletes with qualities such as hard work, tenacity, generosity, and humility. With Triggs at the helm, MBA’s baseball program is poised for continued success both on and off the field.
